Session 1: Careful What You Wish For!

The masks are on and the mystery begins!

Our Call of Cthulhu game launched in glorious Golden Age fashion. The Fury arrived in his signature skeleton costume, while Blackout came fully geared up and ready for action. The Hamilton Skyhook and the Omen kept a lower profile, showing up in plain clothes. Sadly, the Knuckler couldn’t make it—his player was under the weather—but the team pressed on.

They met with the enigmatic Augustus Larkin, who delivered his pitch in a gravelly voice: he’s heading to a remote pyramid in Peru and needs help retrieving the “treasures” within. Lurking nearby was Luis De Mendoza, all scowls and silent menace. The third man, Jesse Hughes, seemed to be studying our heroes with quiet interest.

Though skeptical, the heroes agreed to the expedition—something about this didn’t sit right, but the scent of adventure was too strong to ignore. After Larkin and De Mendoza retired to their hotel, Jesse Hughes lingered… and revealed his true identity: Jackson Elias—and even more shockingly, The Phantom Scarab! A mystery man in his own right, Elias confessed he specifically sought out other masked adventurers who could keep secrets and handle the unknown.

The next day took them to the university, where they hoped to gather more information from Dr. Sánchez. Instead, they found horror. His grad student, Trinidad Rizo, lay dead—her body horrifyingly drained of all fat. A fire had broken out upstairs, and when the heroes burst into Sánchez’s office, they found him on the floor, injured—and three Kharisiri Vampires closing in!

Hamilton Skyhook tried a non-lethal approach, firing a bean bag round, but the monster shrugged it off like a paper cut. Blackout, however, drew both Magnums and opened fire, dispatching two of the creatures in a thunderous display of gunfire. The third vampire fled into the smoke and shadows.

What lies ahead for our masked investigators? Will they uncover the truth behind Larkin’s expedition? And will the Knuckler recover in time to join the team?

We’ll find out next time!
